Kucingan
By: mizan on July 6th, 2008.
Location: Pemuda street, Semarang
This is a nasi kucing ( literally means “rice for cat”) vendor’s cart. Nasi kucing is rice and toppings wrapped in a paper. It is so-called since the portion of the rice served is as much as a one given for a cat (it is worth noting that many people feed their cats rice and fish here). You can buy many kinds of food, and the best thing is that the prices are very cheap (around Rp 1000 - 2000). Despite the tiny portion, nasi kucing helps you enough to prevent emergency hunger. The place in which you can hang out and enjoy your nasi kucing is usually called kucingan. Kucingan is one of the cheapest and most comfortable place to mingle and discuss any subjects with other people.

Oh great! The place is like a what we have in Mumbai called ‘adda’ which is generally a place where you can pick up a quick bite as well as exchange all the local gossip!

Your English ability is out of date and needs to be improved. I wonder why you had to make statements about each picture in English since your English is not all that? I am Indonesian who was born and raised in Semarang and have lived in the United States for more than 13 years. Finally, i’ve made my decision to go back home by the end of October this year. It would feel good to be back home, wouldn’t it?

do not worry about your English….we are Indonesian, English is our 2 nd language…
Bravo Faniez, keep learning…..

@johannes Soegijanto.
dear sir, if u r from semarang u must know that English is our third (even it is not a second one) language. so, i think it’s better try and learn to use it than being skeptic and choose to never try.

#wieda: it’s Mizan who’s posted it and I agree with you. English is not ,ain language for us, so why we must bother to be perfect?
Kep writing Mizan!!

Hi, you all! You’re absolutely right! I am very sorry for being too critical. Hei, sometimes it isn’t the quality of a man’s work performance that counts, but rather the willingness of a man’s heart to work out his effort into being, right? Don’t you all agree with that? At first i had no clue why everything was printed in English, but now i do.

I speak and write Indonesian as well as anybody else does. I would like to make friends with you all. Where do you all live?
You all are welcome to reply my comments in Indonesian if that saves you time and is easier for you.

either in bahasa indonesia or english should be fine i think :)…
as for the comment, this is a photoblog anyways…so it is the photo that counts, isnt it? heheh…but thanks for being critical though..i guess that is good for the website’s improvement :)

Hi, Ninazski! I do like your joke. Is Ninazski your first name, nick name, or what? Are ya Indonesian? If ya are, what part of Town and Province do ya reside at? Or are ya outside the country like i am? I would really like to make friends with everyone who have posted their comments on this website. Boy, Semarang has changed a lot during the last 13 years! I just can’t wait to set my foot on the platform of Ahmad Yani’s airport, and then have my way of driving around the city with my friends and of eating Central Javanese type of food like a beast.

Thank you for the compliment! Well, we’re all individuals who have different perspectives toward things and people. Where i am is how to blend in its circumstances and to treat others like i want to be treated. It is like water when being poured into a teapot, then it forms a teapot, being poured into a glass, it forms a glass. Hei, i am not suppossed to be preaching out here! Who am i to preach?

Hi, Ninazski! How was your weekend? Was it great? I hope so. Where do ya exactly live? I used to live in a part of City that is not too far from Chinatown, it’s called Karang Geneng. Are ya familiar with that area? Wasn’t it silly that i checked your profile the other day after i had posted my comment containing a few questions what i wanted to know about ya? Are ya single and what do ya do? I can see that ya’ve been learning English for a little while. How long have ya learned English? Have ya ever thought about furthering your English in a country where everybody uses it as their main language? It will be my pleasure to know ya.

@johannes,
i guess i am familiar with karanggeneng…where i live now is close to a china quarter in semarang…there’s this food bazaar that opens on weekends called “pasar semawis” so probly when you’re in semarang you can visit and eat all kinds of food that you cant find in the US..
pleasure to know ya too…i don’t think it will be wise to write much about myself here so if you’d like to be friends with us you can just send email or something like that..

To Ninazski,
I know exactly where the Semawis market is located at. I went there a lot when i was still in my hometown. Lady, how do ya expect me to send ya an email without even knowing your email address? And how in the world do ya expect us to exchange our emails? Would ya like me to post my cellular number so ya can text me your email address, or do ya want it done the other way around?
