The ritual of “Ketok Pintu” (to knock on the door) was held on that day (the last Cap Go) as the commencement of Pasar Imlek Semawis event. During the ritual, the Taoists prayed in the shrines located in the Chinese quarter (Pecinan) of Semarang. Four dancers from See Hoo Kiong shrine also added a liveliness to the festival and the Warak Ngendog attraction gave the audience more of a taste of Semarang.

Thousand Arms Dance is a famous Asian dance. The graceful, dynamic movement of the dancers makes the dance look very beautiful. Instead of a thousand, actually there were only 36 arms of 18 dancers. This dance was an opening performance of the Ketoprak Putri Cina show last May 24, 2008. The show was held to commemorate 100 years of the Indonesian National Awakening.

Becak and Taxi
By: hyudee on May 30th, 2008.
Two modes of transportation, modern and traditional, side by side.
Becak (a kind of pedicab) can easily be found in Semarang and most cities in Java.
Taxis are easy to find and seem to be more convenient too, but becaks will never lose their place here. Cheap, pollutant-free, becaks continue to exist as the traditional mode of transportation n Indonesia.
