By: Ahmed on January 12th, 2009.Location : Ling Hok Bio shrine [Klenteng Ling Kok Bio, Gang Pinggir, Semarang]
Saturday, January 10th 2009 was the last full moon in the year of Imlek 2559 (day 15 of the 12th month of Imlek). The ritual of “Ketok Pintu” (to knock on the door) was held on that day (the last Cap Go) as the commencement of Pasar Imlek Semawis event. During the ritual, the Taoists prayed in the shrines located in the Chinese quarter (Pecinan) of Semarang. Four dancers from See Hoo Kiong shrine also added a liveliness to the festival and the Warak Ngendog attraction gave the audience more of a taste of Semarang.

Kucingan
By: mizan on July 6th, 2008.
Location: Pemuda street, Semarang
This is a nasi kucing ( literally means “rice for cat”) vendor’s cart. Nasi kucing is rice and toppings wrapped in a paper. It is so-called since the portion of the rice served is as much as a one given for a cat (it is worth noting that many people feed their cats rice and fish here). You can buy many kinds of food, and the best thing is that the prices are very cheap (around Rp 1000 – 2000). Despite the tiny portion, nasi kucing helps you enough to prevent emergency hunger. The place in which you can hang out and enjoy your nasi kucing is usually called kucingan. Kucingan is one of the cheapest and most comfortable place to mingle and discuss any subjects with other people.
