Kucingan

Kucingan

Location: Pemuda street, Semarang

This is a nasi kucing ( literally means “rice for cat”) vendor’s cart. Nasi kucing is rice and toppings wrapped in a paper. It is so-called since the portion of the rice served is as much as a one given for a cat (it is worth noting that many people feed their cats rice and fish here). You can buy many kinds of food, and the best thing is that the prices are very cheap (around Rp 1000 - 2000). Despite the tiny portion, nasi kucing helps you enough to prevent emergency hunger. The place in which you can hang out and enjoy your nasi kucing is usually called kucingan. Kucingan is one of the cheapest and most comfortable place to mingle and discuss any subjects with other people.

Pasar Kambing

This road junction that is located between MT Haryono street, Tentara Pelajar street, and dr Wahidin street is widely known as Pasar Kambing (Goat Market). This may seem too small for a market, but that is the center of goat traders in Semarang. It is somewhat ironic since they occupy a part of the sidewalk, a place that is supposed to be used for pedestrians.

Beringin

This Beringin (Ficus benjamina) tree is the largest in Semarang. It grows in Candi Lama area. It can be seen from the vast area in Semarang, as it is located in the top of the hill. There was a Sanatorium building here, but now only the ruin remains in the left side.
